The Jake Spies Memorial Scholarship
Junior Guides is honored to announce the establishment of the Jake Spies Memorial Scholarship, which provides the opportunity for a young person to attend Junior Guides Raft Camp.
This scholarship is created in loving memory of Jake Spies (1981–2015), an active, creative, and caring soul who found joy in adventure, nature, and family. Jake’s passions included river rafting and kayaking, dirt bike riding, mixed martial arts, snowboarding, and sketching. He had a deep love for animals and the outdoors, but he was happiest when spending time with his nieces and nephews.
Jake’s playful spirit, his love for rivers, and his devotion to family inspire this scholarship. By supporting future generations of young river enthusiasts, we honor Jake’s memory and carry forward his joy, energy, and adventurous heart. This scholarship to Junior Guides Summer Camp is made possible through the generosity of Jake’s family.
Beginning in 2026, the Jake Spies Memorial Scholarship will honor Jake’s legacy of kindness, creativity, and love of life by making the transformative experiences of rafting, community, and the outdoors accessible to youth in El Dorado County. Priority consideration will be given to residents of El Dorado County and to current or former students of the Gold Trail School District.
